Christian Life
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17
STORY
In the newspaper comic strip Peanuts, we have two individuals with very opposite personalities. We have Charlie Brown who is somewhat of an ineffectual character, and at times he could almost be considered as a misfit in society. On the other hand, we have Lucy Van Pelt who is bossy and who could almost be considered as a being narcissistic.
In one episode Charlie and Lucy are standing next to each other behind a brick wall. Charlie has both elbows resting on the wall, while Lucy has one arm resting on the wall and with the other arm she is resting her chin in the palm of her hand. Lucy says, “Tell me something…” She then turns and looks at Charlie and continues, “Are there more bad people in the world or are there more good people?” Charlie now moves his arms, waving them with great expression when he answers, “Who is to say? Who is to say who is bad or who is good?” Lucy, now raising her fist for emphasis, shouts, “I will!!”
Points to Ponder
Ø Are you a new creation in Christ?
o For me: I am aware that I am a new creation in Christ for I can feel to Holy Spirit within me. Yet, I also realize that I am a new creation that is evolving because I still sin and I still doubt.
Ø Are you like Charlie Brown having put away a life lived in the flesh, or are you like Lucy Van Pelt and still clean to your worldly ways?
o For me: I am too timid to be Lucy. I also know that living a life attached to earthly pursuits can overshadow living a life guided entirely by the Holy Spirit.
Ø Are you self-righteous thinking that you have the ability to judge others?
o For me: Like most people, probably all people, I am self-righteous in that I always have judgmental thoughts regarding others. These I am able to keep to myself, except when I drink and lose my inhibitions.
